The canton of Algrange is a French canton in the Arrondissement Thionville , in the Moselle department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Algrange .

The canton is located in the northwest of the Moselle department.
history
The canton was created on January 25, 1982 from parts of what was then the canton of Hayange . Until 2015, only four municipalities belonged to the canton of Algrange. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 12. In addition to the previous 4 communes, all 12 communes of the previous canton of Fontoy were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Algrange included the four municipalities of Algrange (main town), Knutange , Neufchef and Nilvange . Its layout corresponded to an area of 28.92 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5744.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Jacky Aliventi / Peggy Mazzero-Becker (both PS) won against John Dewald / Christine Lauer (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 60.85% (turnout: 38.52%).
