The canton of Hayange is a French canton in the Arrondissement Thionville , in the Moselle department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Hayange .

The canton is located in the northwest of the Moselle department.
history
The canton was created in 1901 from parts of what was then the canton of Thionville. Until 2015, three municipalities belonged to the canton of Hayange. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 9. In addition to the previous 3 communes, all 6 communes from the previous canton of Moyeuvre-Grande were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the three municipalities of Hayange (main town), Ranguevaux and Serémange-Erzange belonged to the canton of Hayange . Its layout corresponded to an area of 26.15 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5715.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the team Nathalie Ambrosin-Chini / Luc Corradi (both PS) won against Fabien Engelmann / Marie-Christine Houdin (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 54.70% (turnout: 40.74%) .
