The canton of Forbach is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Forbach-Boulay-Moselle , in the Moselle department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
history
The canton was created on December 24, 1984 from parts of the former cantons Forbach-I and Forbach-II. Until 2015, only parts of the municipality of Forbach belonged to the canton of Forbach. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 7. In addition to the previous area, the remaining municipal parts of the city of Forbach, Cocheren, Morsbach, Œting and Rosbruck from the previous canton of Behren-lès-Forbach as well as Petite-Rosselle and Schœneck were added from the previous canton of Stiring-Wendel .

The canton is located in the northern half of the Moselle department on the border with Germany.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, only the municipality of the same name belonged to the canton of Forbach. Its layout corresponded to an area of 16.32 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5712.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the four candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Carmen Diligent / Gilbert Schuh (both UD) won against Patricia Corbisez / Eric Vilain (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 53.89% (turnout: 38.34%).
