The canton of Yutz is a French constituency in the arrondissement of Thionville in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). Its main town is Yutz .

history

The canton was created on August 8, 1967 as the canton of Basse-Yutz through a spin-off from the then canton Thionville. At that time five municipalities belonged to the new canton. With the merger of the two municipalities of Basse-Yutz and Haute-Yutz to form the municipality of Yutz on January 1, 1971, the canton was given its current name. Until 2015, only four municipalities belonged to the canton of Yutz. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 23 entire communes in 2015. Then there are the exclaves Garche and Kœking , which belong to the city of Thionville . In 2015 the municipality of Terville moved to the new canton of Thionville . All 20 municipalities of the previous canton of Cattenom were added to the remaining 3 municipalities .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the four municipalities of Illange , Manom , Terville and Yutz (main town) belonged to the canton of Yutz . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​33.84 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5738.

politics

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Patrick Weiten / Rachel Zirovnik (both UDI) won against Aline Bodo / Stéphane Reichling (both FN ) with 74.00% of the vote (turnout: 39.29%).
