Zoufftgen (German Suftgen , Lorraine Suftge , Luxembourgish Suuftgen ) is a French commune with 1,222 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thionville .

geography

Zoufftgen is located about eleven kilometers north of Thionville on the border with Luxembourg at an altitude between 200 and 395 m above sea level. The area of ​​the municipality covers 16.7 km². Zoufftgen is surrounded by the neighboring communities Frisingen in the north, Hagen and Basse-Rentgen in the northeast, Roussy-le-Village in the east, Hettange-Grande in the southeast, Kanfen and Volmerange-les-Mines in the southwest and Dudelange in the west.

Zoufftgen is located directly on the E 25, the next motorway entrance is in Kanfen . Locally over the running track from Thionville to Luxembourg of the SNCF . On October 11, 2006, two trains belonging to the SNCF and CFL collided in Zoufftgen , killing six people and injuring 20 others.
