Elzange ( German Elsingen ) is a French commune with 721 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Thionville and the canton of Metzervisse .
geography
The municipality of Elzange is located on the Canner , about nine kilometers east of Thionville at an altitude between 157 and 306 m above sea level.
Neighboring communities are Kœnigsmacker in the north, Oudrenne in the east, Inglange in the south, Distroff in the southwest and Valmestroff in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1341 as Elcanges and has belonged to France since 1661.
From 1812 to 1923 the neighboring town of Valmestroff was incorporated.
During the Second World War there was a military camp near Elzange. However, there were no fights because the place was declared an open place.
