Waldwisse (German Waldwiese , 1940-44 Waldwiesen , Lorraine Waldwis ) is a French commune with 824 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
The municipality of Waldwisse is located about 27 kilometers east of Thionville and directly on the border with Saarland . In the east, the community borders on the Biringen district of Rehlingen . The municipality Waldwisse the two villages betting since 1812 include ( Bettingen ) and Gongelfang ( Gongelfangen ), as well as the south to Homestead Henting ( Hintingerhof ). Waldwisse is located on the former Merzig – Bettelainville railway line , which was closed in 1948 . Remnants of this railway line such as the railway bridge or the Silwinger Tunnel on the German-French border are now threatened with decay.
history
The place has belonged to France since 1661. After the Second World War , the site was restructured under the direction of the French architect Georges-Henri Pingusson .
