Bousse ( German Buß , Lorraine Buuss ) is a French commune with 3,174 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
The municipality of Bousse is located on the Moselle , ten kilometers south of Thionville . The village of Blettange ( Blettingen ) has belonged to the municipality since 1791 .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1224, it was still on the German side in the Middle Ages, but since then on the French side of the former German-French language border . The place name is derived from the German word Buße and goes back to a monastery that was located here at the time. Bousse has been part of France since 1659.
A bridge has been crossing the Moselle near Bousse since 1879 . It was destroyed twice during the war (1940 and 1944) and each time it was rebuilt.
