Manom (German Monhofen , Lorraine Monuwen / Munnowen ) is a French commune with 2872 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

The municipality of Manom ​​is located on the right bank of the Moselle , immediately northeast of Thionville .

history

Manom ​​was first mentioned in 1050 under the name Monheim and is named after a Franconian landowner named Munno. The French form of the name first appeared in 1582 as Manome . Since 1659 the place belongs to France.

Attractions

In Manom is the La Grange Castle ( Schloss chafing ). It was rebuilt from 1731. The plans are attributed to Robert de Cotte . In 1750 the Marquis de Fouquet acquired the castle, which is still owned and inhabited by his descendants. It is one of the most beautiful castles of the 18th century in Lorraine. The meadow park of the castle is being restructured and is to be included in the ensemble of Gardens without Borders in the Saar, Lorraine, Luxembourg region.
