Ludwig Aurbacher
Ludwig Aurbacher (born August 26, 1784 in Türkheim , Swabia, † May 25, 1847 in Munich ) was a German writer .
The son of a nail smith attended school in Landsberg am Lech and then wanted to embark on a spiritual career. In 1793 he was a choirboy in Dießen am Ammersee . Further stations were the Benedictine seminary in Munich (1795/96) and the Ottobeuren monastery , which he entered as a novice after graduating from high school in 1801 . After the secularization of Ottobeuren he lived briefly in the Wiblingen monastery , but in 1803 he left the order for health reasons. After a time as court master at the Stift Chancellor von Weckbecker in Ottobeuren (1804-1808) he found his position in life as a teacher : from 1809 to 1834 he taught as a professor of German style and aesthetics at the cadet corps in Munich.
His best-known work is the two-volume collection of stories written in folk tone, which initially appeared anonymously from 1827–1829 under the title Ein Volksbüchlein . Especially the stories about the Seven Swabians contained there became popular.
In his central Swabian birthplace, Türkheim, a room in the Sieben-Schwaben-Museum commemorates the author. The Ludwig-Aurbacher-Mittelschule and Ludwig-Aurbacher-Straße are named after him.
