Garden of the Senses in Merzig

The garden of the senses in Merzig consists of eleven "garden rooms" connected by paths. These are separated from each other by hornbeams . You can see water, gravel and touch gardens. A playground has been set up for children, and there are also child-friendly gardens.

Project funding

The Merzig-Wadern district , the Moselle département in Metz and the Luxembourg Congrégation St. Elisabeth , owner of the Hotel-Schloss in Schengen , with partners and superior authorities are involved in the project. The project is supported by the employment agencies and especially with the assumption of half of the costs from EU structural funds in the Interreg II and III program . On the German side, the lead is the CEB (Christian Adult Education) training center in Merzig .

The project conception and the design of the gardens were carried out by the Saarland garden planner, Hella Kreiselmeyer, who, according to her own description, acquired her specialist knowledge in this area by herself. After research by the Saarland Audit Office of the Saarland in 2007, she and the project sponsors came under public pressure. The Court of Auditors objected to the budget being exceeded by EUR 2.75 million. Those responsible for the project were accused of paying excessive fees in the order of over 100,000 euros. In this context, a possible amalgamation of her husband, Michael Kreiselmeyer (CDU), the district administrator of the Merzig-Wadern district at the time, was discussed in public.
