Tünsdorf is a district of the municipality of Mettlach in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ). Tünsdorf was an independent municipality until the end of 1973.

history

Tünsdorf goes back to a Roman settlement. In the Middle Ages it represented the center of the Saargau with its Martin parish, to which the surrounding villages belonged . In 1941, Tünsdorf was the location of a Serbian work detachment. During the Second World War there was also a camp for Soviet prisoners of war in the village , and in the summer of 1941 a large work detachment from the SS special camp in Hinzert was deployed there.

politics

Due to the territorial and administrative reform in Saarland in 1974 , Tünsdorf became part of the municipality of Mettlach on January 1, 1974.

Two chapels from the 17th century, a St. Martin's monument and a Lourdes grotto from the 20th century bear witness to the religious tradition. The American artist Matt Lamb designed the Maria Königin baptistery .
