Antoine Morlot

Antoine Morlot (born May 5, 1766 in Bousse , † March 22, 1809 in Bayonne ) was a French general of the infantry .

Live and act

Morlot came from the Trois-Évêchés and volunteered for the royal army on December 7, 1782. Until September 28, 1790 he was in an artillery corps. During the Revolutionary Wars he was able to distinguish himself through courage and bravery and was promoted several times.

At the beginning of October 1790 he came as a captain to a battalion des Volontaires nationaux and took u. a. participated in the siege of Thionville and in the battle of Kaiserslautern (November 28/30, 1793).

On January 28, 1794, Morlot was promoted to Général de brigade and as such he and his troops played a key role in the battles near Arlon (April 17/18, 1794), Lambusart (June 12/16, 1794), Fleurus ( June 26th , 1794) June 1794) and Aldenhoven (October 2, 1794).

Effective September 23, 1801, Morlot was made available and did not return to active service until 1807, when Napoleon was planning his campaign to Spain . As Général de division , Morlot fought valiantly in front of Bailén (July 18/22, 1808), Vimeiro (August 21, 1808) and Tudela (November 23, 1808). From December of the same year took part in the siege of Saragossa (December 1808 / February 1809). A typhus epidemic broke out during the siege . Morlot became infected and was evacuated to the Bayonne military hospital as a member of the General Staff. Morlot died there on the morning of March 23, 1809. Napoleon ordered, because of his merits, that Morlot should be buried in France. Antoine Morlot found his final resting place in the Père Lachaise cemetery . (Division 59).
