AGM-79 Blue Eye

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AGM-79 Blue Eye is an air-to-surface missile that was developed by Martin Marietta . The original goal of the program was to improve the AGM-12 Bullpup . The C version of the AGM-12 was used as the basis for this. Since the Bullpup's main problem was poor aiming accuracy, the manual aiming system was replaced by a TV aiming system. This enabled the pilot / gunner to mark the target on a monitor. The missile then automatically sought its target without further marking the target.

Some prototypes were launched in late 1968 under the designation XAGM-79A. At the beginning of 1970 the development was stopped.
