Lists on the subject |
The FGM-172 SRAW (Short Range Assault Weapon), also known as the Predator SRAW , is a short range anti-tank weapon produced by Lockheed Martin . Before it received its name from the US Department of Defense in 2006 , the weapon was developed under the designation "SRAW MK 40 MOD 0".
Application
The Predator SRAW system replaces the AT-4 that is currently in use and is intended to be an addition to the long-range FGM-148 Javelin system in modern house-to-house combat, as it requires a much smaller minimum distance . In addition, the FGM-172 uses a different type of electro-sensory target acquisition than the Javelin, which makes it more difficult for the opponent to protect himself against both systems using softkill systems . The weapon, which weighs only 9.7 kg, is one of the so-called fire-and-forget weapons, as it can independently pursue its target and switch it off after a single sighting.
A distinction is made between two models:
The FGM-172A is used as an anti-tank weapon. It is guided by an inertial navigation system and attacks its targets from above, but can also be fired directly.
The FGM-172B has a multifunctional warhead / fragmentation warhead that makes it suitable for use in urban areas.
The weapon, which was developed for the United States Marine Corps and also used by the Special Forces and the Delta Force , can be fired from vehicles or buildings because the projectile is ejected from the shoulder launcher after the trigger is pulled and only after leaving the Run the engine ignites.
