The Northrop Grumman RQ-5 Hunter (originally BQM-155) is a drone . It is being built by the Israeli company IAI Malat Division in cooperation with the American company Northrop Grumman.

The aircraft takes off and lands on runways with the help of a landing gear. In addition to the United States, the drone is also used by Israel, Belgium, France (demo version only) and the Army of the Ivory Coast . A total of 75 units of the drone were built.

The first serial production drone flew in February 1994. However, after three Hunters crashed in August and September 1995, the program was officially interrupted in January 1996, although 56 drones had already been delivered. Most of the aircraft were stored and only a few were used for test purposes. In 1999 some drones were used to assist NATO in operations in Kosovo.

In addition to the original version, the RQ-5A Hunter, there is also a version MQ-5B Hunter, which has improved avionics, wings with a wing span increased to 10.4 m, additional fuel tanks, more powerful diesel engines and the option of under each wing to carry a GBU-44 Viper Strike .

A version with an even larger wingspan, Extended Hunter , has been developed, but has not yet been used.

At the beginning of March 2014, according to the Russian company Rostech, an RQ-5B drone was intercepted over the Crimea; it is said to belong to the 66th Military Intelligence Brigade of the US Army.
