The Grumman J2F Duck was a single-engine biplane - amphibious aircraft by 1937. It originally had the working name G-4 .
The aircraft was used by the US Navy and US Coast Guard as a sea rescue aircraft , reconnaissance aircraft and for target display. The use took place both from land bases and from aircraft carriers .
history
The J2F was a further development of the JF , the prototype of which flew in 1933 and reached the US Navy in 1936 . The J2F-1 went into series production in 1937 with a more powerful 760 hp Wright R-1820 radial engine . There were a total of six variants of the J2F (J2F-1 to J2F-6).
The last variant J2F-6 with a 1050 hp Wright R-1820-54 radial engine was built in 1940/41. A total of 567 copies of all variants were produced. The last machines were still in use until 1955.

The two-seater biplane had a large central float and two small floats at the ends of the wings. The landing gear was retractable.
