The Columbia Aircraft was an American manufacturer of small sport aircraft , which until the takeover by Cessna in 2007 at the Bend Municipal Airport in Bend in Oregon was home.
The company produced technologically very advanced aircraft. All models are single - engine low - wing planes , have a sidestick control and a glass cockpit and reach high speeds despite the non-retractable landing gear .

The company was founded as a spin-off from Lancair and has had her name since July 2005. In November 2007 the company was bought by Cessna . The company has produced more than 600 aircraft.
