The Northrop N-1M was an early flying wing and predecessor to the Northrop N-9M and Northrop YB-35 .

This aircraft, developed from 1939 to 1940, was the first American flying wing. The first flight took place on July 3, 1940 at Baker Dry Lake in California .

The machine turned out to be quite unstable and underpowered, but the N-1M was Jack Northrop's entry into flying wing construction. The N-1M is now in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space Museum .
