The Lycoming O-145 is a four - cylinder boxer engine made by the US manufacturer Lycoming , which was used to power numerous light aircraft in the 1940s and 1950s.
history
In 1938, Harold Morehouse designed the O-145, a new range of four-cylinder light aircraft engines for Lycoming. The left and right cylinder pairs were each cast in one piece with half of the crankcase . Which also cast aluminum - cylinder heads are connected thereto by bolts. Opposite cylinders are staggered so that the crankshaft had four crank pins .
At the beginning of the development, the engine output was 50 HP (37 kW ) and a mass of 69 kg. At the end of production in 1950, 75 hp (55 kW) were achieved both in the direct drive version and in the variant with propeller transmission. The three variants A, B and C.
