The Lycoming O-435 is an air-cooled aircraft engine from the US manufacturer Lycoming . Due to various changes of company , the terms AVCO-Lycoming and Textron-Lycoming are also used occasionally .
Developed from the four-cylinder O-290 engine, the O-435 has a displacement of 435 cubic inches (7.13 liters). The six-cylinder - Boxer engine with carburetor, like all reciprocating piston - aircraft engines a dual ignition . The versions TVO 435 and VO 435 were mainly used on the Bell 47 helicopter . The TVO 435 delivers a starting power of 270 HP (for a limited time of a few minutes) and a continuous power of 220 HP at a speed of 3200 min −1 . The compression ratio is 7.3: 1. The fuel consumption is around 75 liters / hour.
The type designation TVO 435 follows a system according to which all Lycoming piston engines can be identified with regard to their design features:
- R = radial (radial engine )
- T = Turbocharged ( turbocharger )
- V = Vertical (for vertical installation in helicopters; the crankshaft is vertical and drives the main rotor gearbox directly)
- O = Opposite ( boxer engine ),
- I = Injection ( manifold injection )
- G = Geared (with reduction gear )
