The Honeywell RQ-16A T-Hawk is a VTOL - micro reconnaissance drone used by the US armed forces .
description
Development of the T-Hawk began in 2003 after DARPA started the “Micro Air Vehicle” (MAV) program. Honeywell submitted some suggestions and received a construction contract for 40 million dollars . This envisaged the construction of a technology demonstrator and was integrated into the framework of the Future Combat System of the US Army . Even before the first prototype was completed, Honeywell received an order for a further developed Advanced Micro Air Vehicle in May 2006 for 61 million US dollars .
In 2007 the US Navy ordered 20 MAVs and deployed them in Iraq . It turned out that they are well suited for searching for booby traps. This led to the US Navy surprisingly ordering 372 MAVs in January 2008, giving it the official designation RQ-16A T-Hawk .
In January 2009 the British Armed Forces announced that they would purchase five complete T-Hawk systems.
During the Fukushima nuclear disaster , a T-Hawk was used to collect data, and in June 2011 there was an emergency landing on a reactor building.
