RIM-2 Terrier
RIM-2 Terrier is the name of the first US sea-based medium-range surface-to-air missile . The Terrier had a starting thrust of 2,300 kgf , a starting mass of 1,392 kg, a diameter of 0.34 m, a length of 8.08 m and a fin span of 1.59 m. The range was around 32 kilometers. It consisted of a start stage and a second stage, which contained the guidance systems and the warhead. It was used for the first time from 1955 on the Baltimore conversions USS Boston (CAG-1) and USS Canberra (CAG-2) .
Later variants of the Terrier were produced under the name RIM-67 Standard Missile .
Modifications
The launch stage of decommissioned Terriers and standard rockets was also used as the basis for various sounding rockets . For this purpose, the Terrier was equipped with various upper levels, such as the Asp , the Tomahawk or the Orion .
