Lists on the subject |
The AGM-176 Griffin is a short-range ground-target combat missile developed by Raytheon for use with UAVs , but is also deployed from manned air, water and land vehicles. The special design feature is the low weight of the missile, which is advantageous given the low payload of drones.
description
The AGM-176 Griffin is launched from a pipe. The missile weighs 20 kg with a diameter of 14 cm and has a semi-active laser seeker. The warhead weighs a good 6 kg, which means that the explosive power is significantly lower than z. B. in the widespread AGM-114 Hellfire . As a result, the Griffin is less effective in fighting armored targets, but it also reduces the collateral damage that often occurs during drone missions . The low weight of the weapon enables either a larger number of weapons to be carried or significantly smaller carrier systems.
In order to keep the development costs of the Griffin as low as possible, Raytheon used many components from previous projects, including the FGM-148 Javelin and the AIM-9X Sidewinder .
