The FIM-43 Redeye was a shoulder-based anti - aircraft missile ( MANPADS ) made by the US manufacturer General Dynamics for self-defense by ground troops .
development
The development of the weapon system began in 1955. The delivery took place in 1967, but production ended in September 1969 after approximately 85,000 units had been manufactured.
The model FIM-43 Redeye was replaced by the Redeye II , which was later renamed the FIM-92 Stinger . The Redeye was taken out of service between 1982 and 1995 after the delivery of the Stinger was completed.
The Redeye MANPADS was exported to various countries, including Germany , where it was used by the Bundeswehr from 1973 to 1992 under the name “ Fliegerfaust 1“ Redeye ””. In Sweden , a non-NATO country, it was introduced into the armed forces under the name "RBS 69".
