The AIM-260 JATM is an air-to-air guided missile in the U.S. Forces program .

The AIM-260 JATM (Joint Advanced Tactical Missile) is a medium to long range missile ( BVR guided missile ). In June 2019, the existence of the program was officially confirmed. It is later to replace the AIM-120 AMRAAM in the US armed forces . The AIM-260 is used by Lockheed Martin develops and competes for LREW program by Raytheon . Development of the AIM-260 began in 2017 in response to the Chinese PL-15 . Although the AMRAAM has been successively developed since its introduction in 1991 and with its last expansion stage, the AIM-120D, reaches a range of over 160 km, the more recent development of the PL-15 already achieves ranges of up to 300 km. The test of the AIM-260 JATM is on schedule from 2021, the IOC ( Initial Operating Capability ) in 2022 . The F-22A Raptor and the F / A-18E / F Super Hornet will initially be used as deployment platforms . Integration with the F-35 is also planned for a later date .
