Shavit
Shavit (. Hebrew for comet ) is the name of an Israeli three-stage solid-driven launcher resulting from the Jericho-2 - medium-range missile was developed. It is part of the space program of the Israel Space Agency .
On September 19, 1988 and April 3, 1990, the first two rockets of this type were successfully launched from Palmachim .
Since Palmachim can only take off in a westerly direction for political reasons, the satellites of the Ofeq series launched with the Shavit are among the few earth satellites that orbit the earth in an east-west direction and not nearly equatorially.
