The canton Freyming-Merlebach is a French constituency in the Arrondissement Forbach-Boulay-Moselle , in the Moselle department and in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ); its main town is Freyming-Merlebach .

The canton is located in the northern half of the Moselle department on the border with Germany.
history
The canton was created on August 8, 1967 as the canton of Freyming from parts of the then canton of Saint-Avold. From 1971 it had its current name. Until 2015 ten municipalities belonged to the canton of Freyming-Merlebach. In 1971 Merlebach was added from the previous canton Forbach-2, which merged with the previous municipality of Freyming to form the new municipality of Freyming-Merlebach. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of municipalities rose to 11. In addition to the previous 10 municipalities, the municipality of Hombourg-Haut from the previous canton of Saint-Avold-2 was added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Freyming-Merlebach included the ten municipalities of Barst , Béning-lès-Saint-Avold , Betting , Cappel , Farébersviller , Freyming-Merlebach (main town), Guenviller , Henriville , Hoste and Seingbouse . Its layout corresponded to an area of 62.05 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5741.

politics
In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the six candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, Françoise Goldite / Laurent Kleinhentz (both PS) won against Stéfanie Coniglio / Bernard Janvier (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 60.85% (turnout: 38.52%).
