The canton of Montigny-lès-Metz is a French canton in the arrondissement of Metz , in the department of Moselle and in the region of Grand Est (until 2015 Lorraine ); its capital is Montigny-lès-Metz .

The canton is located west of the city of Metz in the Moselle department.
history
The canton was created on August 8, 1967 from parts of what was then the canton of Metz-Campagne. Until 2015, seven municipalities belonged to the canton of Montigny-lès-Metz. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes fell to 6. Of the previous 7 communes, only the main town remained. Augny moved to the new canton of Les Coteaux de Moselle , five more municipalities to the new canton of Le Pays messin . However, 4 of the 8 municipalities of the previous canton of Woippy and the municipality of Scy-Gazelles from Verny were added.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Montigny-lès-Metz included the seven municipalities of Augny , Chieulles , Mey , Montigny-lès-Metz (main town), Saint-Julien-lès-Metz , Vantoux and Vany . Its layout corresponded to an area of 36.30 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5720.

In the first ballot on March 22, 2015, none of the five candidate pairs achieved an absolute majority. In the runoff election on March 29, 2015, the pairing Marie-Louise Kuntz / Lucien Vetsch (both Union de la Droite | UD) won against Maria Albrech / Aymeric Perraud (both FN ) with a share of the vote of 68.66% (turnout: 44, 07%).
