Plappeville is a French commune with 1998 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region ( Lorraine until 2015 ).
geography
The municipality of Plappeville borders the city of Metz in the east .
history
The place was founded in 621 by Pappolus, the bishop of Metz , and served as his country house ( Pappoli villa ). In 1552, Plappeville came to France with the Treaty of Chambord .
In 1867 , the construction of the Fort Alvensleben [Plappeville] began as part of the creation of the first fort belt around the fortress of Metz ( Barrière de fer ), the design of which goes back mainly to General Séré de Rivières . From 1871 to 1918 the place belonged to the German Empire . 1915-18 the place had the Germanized name Papolsheim .
In 1940 Plappeville was reoccupied by the Germans, who expelled 95% of the population in November 1940 and briefly renamed it Pleppweiler . 1941 was until the liberation in 1944 in Metz incorporated ( Metz-Papolsheim ).
