Vaux is a French commune with 798 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

Vaux is located a few kilometers upstream from Metz on the other side of the Moselle at an altitude between 167 and 353 m above sea level, the mean height is 230 m. The municipality covers 6.63 km² (663 ha), and the population density is 132 people per km². The municipality is located in the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

history

The place was first mentioned in 875 as Vallis . 1915-18 and 1940-44 he had the Germanized name Wals .
