Plesnois is a French commune with 826 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz . The inhabitants call themselves the Plesnoissiens or the Plesnoissiennes . The name of the place has nothing to do with the many large walnuts that grow in the area. Plesnois denotes a place where plane trees were planted.
geography
Plesnois is located seven kilometers northwest of downtown Metz at an average altitude of 242 meters above sea level. The municipality covers 3.11 km².
history
The village was first mentioned as a plenoy in 1685 and was part of the municipality of Norroy-le-Veneur until 1840 . Spellings of the place were also Plenoy or Pleneouf, then Plenois or Pléneuf around 1759 and finally Plesnois in sources from 1808 and 1869.
1915–1918 and 1940–1944 it had the Germanized name Plenach , changed again in 1917 to Plenau. In November 1940, the majority of the inhabitants were expelled by the Germans , and the village was badly destroyed during the liberation in autumn 1944.

Between 1793 and the Second World War, the population was between 310 and almost 430. In 1946, however, the population had fallen to 206 people

Culture and sights
In Plesnois there are houses from 1580 and 1700 respectively.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time the most important branch of business was agriculture. Grapes were grown and fruit and vegetables were grown. Furthermore, there were and are many fruit trees (mirabelle plums, cherries, apples, pears and especially the nuts).
