Failly is a French commune with 511 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
Failly is located seven kilometers northeast of downtown Metz on the highway to Bouzonville . The A4 autoroute (Paris-Strasbourg) runs through the west of the municipality .
The neighboring municipalities are Vany in the west, Sainte-Barbe in the east and Servigny-lès-Sainte-Barbe in the south. In the north are Charly-Oradour and Sanry-lès-Vigy .
history
The present municipality was created on January 1st, 1974 by merging two villages:
- Failly was first 914 as Fadilica mentioned and carried from 1915 to 1918 and from 1940 to 1944 the German name failen . From 1908 to 1944, the 574 m long railway bridge of Nouilly , which was built of steel and spanned the valley, ran past the edge of the village . At the end of the Second World War , the bridge was blown up by the Germans on their retreat and not rebuilt. The remains of the pillars can still be seen here and there.
- Vrémy was first in 1296 as Virmiez mentioned and carried from 1915 to 1918 the German name Fremich and 1940-1944 Fremmingen . It is two kilometers northeast of Failly.
