Montois-la-Montagne is a French commune with 2,710 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

geography

The municipality of Montois-la-Montagne is located on a plateau above the Orne Valley , about 18 kilometers northwest of Metz and seven kilometers southeast of Briey on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .

history

From 1940 to 1944 the small town was known as Montingen . The municipality of Montoy-Flanville east of Metz, which had to bear the same name in the First World War , was renamed in 1940-1944 instead in Monten .
