Ars-Laquenexy is a French commune with 910 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

The municipality of Ars-Laquenexy borders the city of Metz to the southwest .

history

The origins of the village are close to the castle ( Château de Mercy-lès-Metz ), which dates back to the 10th century and was built on the site of a Roman villa from the 3rd century. The place was occupied and annexed by France in 1552, which was recognized in the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 .

From 1871 to 1918 the village belonged again to the German Empire , but French remained the official and colloquial language .

From 1915 to 1918 and from 1940 to 1944 it had the Germanized name Ars bei Kenchen .
