Louvigny ( German  Loveningen ) is a French commune with 899 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

geography

The commune of Louvigny is located 18 kilometers south of Metz on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . The Seille forms the western boundary of the municipality. The Lorraine TGV TGV station is in the municipality of Louvigny, and the Metz-Nancy-Lorraine airport is four kilometers from the center of the village .

history

The village has belonged to France since 1552.

From 1915 to 1918 it had the Germanized name Loveningen , from 1940 to 1944 Loweningen . When it was liberated from the German occupation, it was badly destroyed in autumn 1944.
