A Jewish community in Louvigny in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine was established by the 18th century at the latest.

history

In 1789 the Jewish community of Louvigny already consisted of 20 families. They lived mainly from the horse and textile trade. In 1895 there were 59 and in 1931 only 15 Jewish residents, almost all of whom were deported and murdered. From 1808 the Jewish community belonged to the Israelite consistorial district of Metz .

The synagogue , built between 1830 and 1840, was abandoned and demolished before 1940.

The Louvigny Jewish cemetery still has many well-preserved gravestones ( Mazevot ).
