A Jewish community in Saint-Avold in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine had since the beginning of the 17th century.

history

The Jewish community of Saint-Avold probably already had a synagogue before 1817 , because it was being rebuilt at that time. It was renovated in 1860 and rebuilt in 1935. This synagogue was so destroyed during the Second World War that after 1956 a new synagogue was built on the Place du Marché according to the plans of the architect Roger Zonca . The Jewish community has belonged to the Israelite consistorial district of Metz since 1808 .

graveyard

For a long time, the Jewish community buried its dead in the Jewish cemetery in Hellering and built its own Jewish cemetery in Saint-Avold around 1900 .
