Hellimer Jewish Community

A Jewish community in Hellimer in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine has existed since at least the 18th century.

The oldest known synagogue in Hellimer existed until the new synagogue was built in 1822. The new synagogue, similar to the one in Nancy , was located on Rue de l'École and was destroyed in June 1940 by German troops during World War II.

To worship the Jewish residents of nearby villages came to Hellimer.

The Jewish cemetery of Hellimer is located in Rue du Kirchweg. The cemetery was put up for sale by the German occupiers and the mayor saved it from destruction by purchasing it himself.
