A Jewish community in Sarrebourg in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine has existed since the 18th century.

history

The Jewish community of Sarrebourg, which rented a prayer hall from 1823 to 1845, built a synagogue on Rue du Sauvage in 1846 , which still exists today. The Jewish community of Sarrebourg belonged to the Israelite consistorial district of Nancy from 1808 to 1871 , and since then to the consistorial district of Metz .

The Sarrebourg Jewish cemetery is on the road to Buhl-Lorraine . The oldest preserved tombstones ( Mazevot ) are from 1781/83.
