A Jewish community in Fénétrange in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine had existed since the 18th century at the latest.

history

The Jewish community of Fénétrange was founded in the 18th century at the latest, because the oldest gravestones ( Mazevot ) of the Jewish cemetery are from this time .

The synagogue , on rue du Vieux Pensionnat right next to rue des Juifs ( Judengasse ), was built in 1866 and sold in 1979. Today it serves as a coach house , but the women's gallery is still there. The carved stone Torah shrine was given to the museum in Metz . From 1808 the Jewish community belonged to the Israelite consistorial district of Metz .

The Jewish cemetery is in the Gros Chêne corridor . It was desecrated by the German occupiers during World War II .
