Buding Jewish Community

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Jewish community in Buding in the Moselle department in the French region of Lorraine existed since the 17th century.

history

The Jewish community of Buding built their first synagogue in 1757. Between 1838 and 1854 a new synagogue was built, No. 12 route d'Inglange, which still exists today but is used as a coach house. The front building was the home of the ministre-officiant and the Jewish school was housed in the neighboring house. The remains of a ritual bath ( mikveh ) have been dug up in the garden . The Jewish community had belonged to the Israelite consistorial district of Metz since 1808 .
