Argancy (German 1915–1918 Argannen , 1940–1944 Argesingen ) is a French commune with 1,343 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

geography

The municipality of Argancy is ten kilometers north of Metz on the Moselle at an altitude of between 158 and 210 m above sea level. The Paris-Strasbourg motorway , which crosses the Moselle here , runs through the 11.45 km² municipal area .

history

The place was first mentioned in 857 as Argesingas and in 1210 as Archanciacum and came to France in 1552. From 1871 to 1918 it belonged again to the German Empire .
