Vany is a French commune with 410 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

geography

Vany is located a few kilometers northeast of Metz at an altitude between 182 and 258 m above sea level. The municipal area covers 3.1 km² (310 ha). The place consists of the two districts Vany and Villers-l'Orme (Ulmenweiler), which were merged in 1819. In 1907 a phylloxera research station was founded as a branch of the Biological Reich Institute for Agriculture and Forestry in Ulmenweiler. The entomologist, botanist and oenologist Carl Julius Bernhard Börner directed this station from 1907 to 1910.
