Novéant-sur-Moselle is a French commune with 1797 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

geography

Novéant is located on the Moselle , 14 kilometers southwest of Metz . The west of the municipality is part of the Lorraine Regional Nature Park .

history

The name of the community is derived from the Latin ad novam viam ("on the new road"). Novéant was ecclesiastical property in the Middle Ages and came to France in 1661.

In 1887 Wilhelm Schnäbele was arrested in Novéant, which led to the Schnäbele affair .

1915-1918 the place had the Germanized name Neuburg i.Lothr. and the station is called Neuburg (Lothr.) . 1940–1944 the name was changed to Neuburg an der Mosel .

traffic

Novéant has a station on the Nancy – Metz line , which is served by the TER Lorraine local trains. From 1912 to 1933 the Novéant – Gorze Electric Railway connected Novéant with the neighboring municipality of Gorze .
