Augny is a French commune with 1996 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz and the canton of Les Coteaux de Moselle (until 2015 Montigny-lès-Metz ).

The municipality of Augny is located between the Moselle and Seille , about seven kilometers southwest of downtown Metz at an altitude of between 165 and 361 m above sea level. The air force base Jean Dagnaux (Base aérienne 128 Metz-Frescaty) is located in the municipal area of almost 15 km² .

The place was first mentioned in 857 as Avignaco . 1915–1918 he had the Germanized name Auning and 1940–44 Auningen .
