Roncourt is a French commune with 1003 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

geography

Roncourt is located 15 kilometers northwest of Metz at an average altitude of 330 m. The municipality covers 6.73 km².

history

The village is located near the battlefield of Gravelotte and belonged to the German Empire from 1871 to 1918 .

1915–1918 and 1940–1944 it bore the Germanized name Ronhofen .
