Cheminot is a French commune with 775 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Metz .

geography

The municipality of Cheminot is located on the Seille , nine kilometers northeast of Pont-à-Mousson and about 20 kilometers south of Metz . To the west and south, the municipality borders on the Meurthe-et-Moselle department .

Two other districts belong to Cheminot:

  • Longeville-lès-Cheminot, a little to the north (1916–1918 Langendorf near Kemnat and 1940–1944 Langendorf near Kemmen ) and
  • Marly-aux-Boix, a little further north.

history

The place was first mentioned in 783 as villa Camenitum and has belonged to France since 1552.

In the First World War he carried the Germanized name Kemnat 1915-1918 . During the Second World War , the German civil administration expelled all of the residents on November 13, 1940 and some German families settled there until the liberation in autumn 1944, during which time the village was called Kemmen .
