The Olsen Gang and their big coup is a Danish crime comedy from 1972. It is the fourth film with the Olsen Gang .

action

At the beginning of the film, Egon and Benny enter the classy apartment of a lawyer through the window while the lawyer is watching a live broadcast of the Danish national team's football match with his wife. The lawyer and his wife are so captivated by the game that they don't notice Egon picking up their precious silverware and lowering his loot in a big sack to Kjeld, who is waiting in front of the house. Nevertheless, the coup ended doubly unsuccessful for the Olsen gang: The bag with the booty is taken from Kjeld by two rogue gang competitors of the Olsen gang, the “King” Victor-Emanuel and the “Knappen” Emil. During a picture disturbance of the television broadcast, the lawyer noticed Egon in his apartment, who was arrested again after a police call.

After his release from prison, Egon explains his new plan to Benny and Kjeld: he wants to make a money transport easier by four million crowns. Together with Børge, this plan initially works flawlessly. In Kjeld's apartment, Egon, Benny, Kjeld and Yvonne then had a heated discussion about the use of the money. Yvonne needs it for Børge's upcoming confirmation. Egon doesn't want to know anything about it and therefore decides to hide the money for now. Together with Kjeld and Benny he visits an outdoor swimming pool, where he gives the suitcase to the lifeguard to keep. They are watched by Sonja, the attractive sister of the "Knappen".

Some time later, while strolling through downtown Copenhagen, Egon, Benny, Kjeld and Yvonne can see König, Knappe and Sonja pull up in a luxury limousine in front of the Sheraton Hotel. When Benny recognizes Sonja as "the little one from the swimming pool" , Egon has terrible suspicions. Another visit to the luggage storage of the outdoor pool brings certainty: the suitcase with the money was stolen.

There is great depression in the Olsen Gang. Benny and Kjeld break into a grocery store, their only prey is a can of fish dumplings. Meanwhile, Egon spies after the "king" and watches him deposit the suitcase in a bank vault. Egon then gives the police an anonymous tip, whereupon their inspector Mortensen takes the suitcase out of the safe. Egon succeeds in exchanging this for an identical-looking suitcase that only contains telephone books. The new police chief, who hastily arranged a press conference with the public impact of the police in mind and opens the suitcase in front of the television cameras, is making himself a mockery of the public.

As a diversionary maneuver, Egon, Benny and Kjeld pretend to be fleeing to Mallorca; In fact, however, they are hiding with Yvonne, who is still working on the preparations for the confirmation, and Børge in a small hut on the edge of Copenhagen Airport. Meanwhile, Mortensen first goes to Kjeld's apartment after a bank clerk recognized Egon in the police's criminal record during a witness questioning, and a little later the squire too. The latter completely ravages the apartment in search of the money, but then receives the suitcase from the unsuspecting neighbor. Ultimately, however, this case also turns out to be wrong.

The chief of police also visits the Jensen's apartment. At the sight of the devastation, he believes it is the work of his colleague Mortensen, who has repeatedly exposed him to public ridicule. Mortensen has meanwhile found the hiding place of the Olsen gang and calls his boss. When he appears, however, he puts Mortensen in a straitjacket and takes him away.

Egon, Kjeld and Benny drive back to the apartment themselves to get the suitcase that Yvonne thoughtlessly left in the courtyard. But Sonja had gotten ahead of them. When Egon later tried to snatch the suitcase from her at the airport, he was arrested for attempted robbery. Sonja flies to Mallorca with the money, while the king and squire have to work off their debts as rags-to-riches in the kitchen of the Sheraton Hotel. The police chief ensures that Kjeld's furniture is completely renewed, as he still considers Mortensen to be the cause of the devastation. Yvonne can now take care of the preparations for Børges confirmation.

German synchronization

Like all films in the series, this one was dubbed by DEFA in the GDR . Egon was spoken again by Karl Heinz Oppel and Benny by Peter Dommisch . Günter Schubert had his first of two appearances as the German voice of Kjeld. Margit Bendokat was Yvonne's voice for the third time.

meaning

With this film, the plot pattern that was to shape the dramaturgy of the Olsen Gang films in the following years was further consolidated. With Børges confirmation, Yvonne is occupied with a task for the first time, and she repeatedly admonishes the men to cooperate. The resulting conflicts and disagreements are a typical feature of the later Olsen Gang films.

The film was also released in Denmark in 1977 in the form of a comic strip with drawings by Otto Frello . While the 48-page comic album sold sluggishly at the time, it is now a collector's item. The album was published in 2008 by Holzhof-Verlag Dresden , on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Olsen Gang, with extensive additional and background material also in German.

Remarks

  • On the German DVD cover, the film bears the title Die Olsenbande and their biggest coup .
  • From this film on, Yvonne and Kjeld lived in the characteristic house with an outside staircase, which was to remain their home until the thirteenth film. It was located in Valby on Asta Nielsen Strædet (in the immediate vicinity of the Nordisk Film site ) and was demolished in 1988.
  • In Mortensen's criminal record, in addition to Egon and the king and the squire, files on the author Henning Bahs and the cameraman Jørgen Skov can be recognized.
  • The theft from the money transport takes place in front of the birth house of the atomic physicist Niels Bohr .
  • In 1976, a Norwegian remake was staged with Olsenbanden møter Kongen & Knekten .
