Henning Bahs

Henning Bahs (born March 12, 1928 in Copenhagen ; † March 29, 2002 ibid) was a Danish screenwriter and production designer .

Life

Henning Bahs was born in Copenhagen in 1928. At 20, he worked in an advertising agency, for which he animated films produced. He then studied at an art college , but dropped out. From 1952 he worked for Nordisk Film in the props department and began writing screenplays in the 1960s. He later worked as a production designer on over 200 Danish feature films.

Together with Erik Balling , he devised the Olsenbande film series and worked on it for a total of 30 years as a screenwriter and production designer. Even after his partner Balling had to quit in 1998 for health reasons, he still wrote the script for the last film The (really) very last trick of the Olsen gang . He worked in an advisory capacity for the children's film Olsenbande Junior (2001). His scripts for the Olsen Gang were also used in remakes in the Norwegian Olsen Gang film series and partly in the Swedish Jönssonligan . In addition to the Olsen Gang, he also wrote the scripts for the two series Oh, these tenants (1972-1976) and Anthonsen (1984).

In 1991 he participated in the production design of Lars von Trier's Film Europa , which won several awards at the Cannes International Film Festival .

In 1974 he received the Danish Film Prize Bodil for his special effects . He also won a Robert for production design in 1986 (for the short film Johannes' hemmelighed ), 1990 (for Valby - The Secret in the Moor ) and 1992 (for Europe ) . In 1998 he was awarded an Honorary Robert.

Henning Bahs died on March 29, 2002 at the age of 74. He was buried in Bispebjerg Kirkegård , a cemetery in the Bispebjerg district of Copenhagen .

The film Old Men in New Cars - In China They Eat Dogs 2 begins with a dedication to the late Henning Bahs. Since 2012 he has been honored with a Henning Bahs Prize at the annual Bodil Awards , which is awarded for outstanding achievements for the best Danish production design or special effects.
